In this class we'll teach you how to build a vintage shipping crate with commonly available 1x4 lumber and six basic HAND-tools (a saw, tape measure, speed square, hand drill, block plane, and screwdriver).  These versatile crates will have a hinged lid and can be used in multiple ways.

About the event


This class is specifically designed for teens or adults with little or no woodworking experience.  Under the guidance of instructor Charles Lamica you will use commonly available 1x4 lumber and six basic hand-tools (a saw, tape measure, speed square, hand drill, block plane, and screwdriver) to build a rustic wooden shipping crate.  These crates will have a hinged lid and can be used in multiple ways:  as a tool box, toy box, treasure chest, or storage for craft supplies or can even function as a dorm room chest and/or bedside table.


We will provide the construction materials and have tools you can borrow in class.  We’ll teach you how to measure and mark the pieces to be cut, how to use a handsaw, how to use a block plane to smooth over sharp edges, how to pre-drill screw holes to prevent the wood from splitting, how to use wood screws…
